Migration
Migrating from Mailchimp to Mailmundo.
Mailchimp owns SMB marketing email but its audience builder lock-in and contact-tier pricing punish growing cleaning brands. Mailmundo gives you the same campaigns + automation with branded tracking on your domain and pricing that scales with sends, not contacts.
Why operators move
- Audience builder lock-in: leaving Mailchimp means rebuilding your segmentation logic from scratch.
- Pricing punishes growth: you pay per contact, even contacts you never email. Cleaning brands accumulate dormant contacts fast.
- No transactional path — you'd still need a separate ESP (Mandrill is buried inside Mailchimp's pricing trap).
- Generic templates and AI. Nothing built for cleaning industry verticals.
What stays the same
- Same audience segmentation concepts — we map Mailchimp segments to Mailmundo segments 1:1.
- Same merge tag syntax (we support Mailchimp's |MERGE_FIELD| alongside Liquid).
- Same campaign scheduling + A/B testing + drag-drop visual editor (in admin web).
- Same compliance footer requirements.
What gets better
- Pay for sends, not contacts. Dormant contacts cost zero.
- Transactional + marketing on one platform, one bill.
- Branded tracking domain + preference center (no mailchimpmail.com).
- Hash-chained audit log + per-key API scopes (Mailchimp has neither).
- AI Copywriter with cleaning industry vocabulary.
- Trilingual EN/PT-BR/ES + 9 more locales for templates.
Migration steps
1. Export audiences + tags + custom fields
Mailchimp: Audience → All Contacts → Export. Mailmundo importer maps tags → contact_tags 1:1, custom fields → contact_attributes JSON.
2. Translate templates (Mailchimp blocks → MJML/Liquid)
We provide a Mailchimp template translator (npx @mailmundo/migrate mc). Handles classic editor + new editor templates. Drag-drop blocks become MJML sections.
3. Map segments to Mailmundo rule-based segments
Mailchimp segment rules (e.g., "opened in last 30 days AND in segment Premium") translate to Mailmundo segment expressions. We review with you before going live.
4. Verify domain + claim sender reputation
Add DKIM + SPF + DMARC for mailmundo.com (or your tracking subdomain). Mailmundo SES gradually ramps your reputation in parallel with Mailchimp running.
5. Migrate one campaign at a time
Start with a low-stakes newsletter. Compare opens + clicks + unsubscribes vs Mailchimp baseline for 2 sends. Then migrate the rest of the calendar.
